SPECIAL MATTHIAS SCHOENAERTS
Matthias Schoenaerts is without a doubt today’s most well-known, talented and sought after actor, but he is also a familiar face in the short film business. Over the last few years, he acted in no less than fourteen shorts and has proven to always choose wisely. Just think of his appearances in films by Hans Van Nuffel (Adem) and Michael R. Roskam (Rundskop). The festival selected five excellent shorts starring Matthias Schoenaerts, including the buzzworthy ‘Death of a Shadow’.

EUROPE IN SHORTS
The International Short Film Festival Leuven has long been a fixture in the European movie business. One of the reasons is the excellent and annually presented ‘Europe in Shorts’: a limited high quality selection of fourty films. This year, we had over 3000 entries to choose from. Together, these fourty films by fourty promising directors from twenty different countries will help shape the future of European cinema.

Shorts for Kids
The festival is happy to present a great program for our younger film fans. We have composed four compilations of short animation films, featuring fourty-one films made in just about every technique known to the genre. Stopmotion, 3D animation, cel animation, cutout animation and puppet animation. Shorts for Kids is all about creativity and imagination. One of the films in this program will take home the Ketnet Award, an award premiere. Inspired to make animation films yourself? Join our fun stopmotion animation film workshop.

FESTIVALCAFÉ
During the International Short Film Festival, the STUK café is transformed into the festival café. It becomes the epicenter of the action, the place where visitors and directors meet, where we open and close the festival and organize drinks in between. Everyone is invited to enjoy tasty spaghetti, freshly made soup and sandwiches or an ice-cold beer. And there is more: live gigs, hot DJs and projections are all part of the program.
