VAF Next Generation

With VAF Next Generation, the Flemish Audiovisual Fund (VAF) focuses on new film talent. Every year, promising work by master's students from Flemish film schools is highlighted in each category, and a specialised jury awards the prizes. The VAF Wildcards provide a substantial budget and personal coaching for a first extracurricular project, while the Booster Cards offer advice and coaching. The Wildcard winners not only get a place on stage at the festival, their films also get their own programme.

VAF Next Generation Award Ceremony

The presentation of the VAF Wildcards and Booster Cards is an absolute highlight of the festival. For past winners, a VAF Wildcard has often meant an important step in their career. That also goes for former winner Dorian Jespers. In 2019, he received the VAF Wildcard for Sun Dog, which earned him an EFA nomination and made him the winner of Short of the Year. With the prize money from his VAF Wildcard, he created Loynes, which premiered in Cannes this year. The film will be screened at the VAF Next Generation award ceremony, and in the Flemish fiction competition.
