Talking Shorts en het European Network for Film Discourse (The END) presenteren de 8e editie van de European Workshop for Film Criticism op Kortfilmfestival Leuven en op het Litouwse Vilnius Short Film Festival in januari.
Kortfilmfestival Leuven 2025 verwelkomt heel graag de achtste European Workshop for Film Criticism - intussen voor de derde keer. De workshop verkent verschillende vormen van geschreven filmkritiek en zet zo de ondergewaardeerde kunst van de kortfilmkritiek in de kijker. In Leuven leren deelnemers degelijke filmrecensies schrijven. In Vilnius verschuift de focus naar essayistische, langere teksten.
De docent van deze tandemworkshop is Michaël Van Remoortere. Als auteur en filmcriticus publiceerde hij zowel online als in verschillende magazines, waaronder Talking Shorts en Photogénie. Hij heeft een achtergrond in de literatuur en filosofie en sinds 2023 begeleidt hij de Cinea's Citics Workshop op Film Fest Gent. Hij wordt geflankeerd door verschillende gastmentoren.

Talking Shorts and the European Network for Film Discourse (The END) present the 8th edition of the European Workshop for Film Criticism at Kortfilmfestival Leuven in December and at the Lithuanian Vilnius Short Film Festival in January.
Kortfilmfestival Leuven 2025 is very happy to welcome the European Workshop for Film Criticism for the third time. The workshop will explore different forms of written film criticism, thus putting a spotlight on the underrated art of short film criticism. In Leuven, participants will work on the fundamentals of writing a solid film review. In Vilnius, the focus shifts to essayistic, long-form texts.
The writing process will be supervised editorially during the festivals, and a selection of the texts will be published on Talking Shorts. Last year's results can be found here.
The tutor of this tandem workshop is Michaël Van Remoortere. As an author and film critic, he has published both online and in various magazines, including Talking Shorts and Photogénie. He has a background in literature and philosophy and, since 2023, he has been supervising the Cinea's Citics Workshop at Film Fest Gent. He will be joined by several guest mentors during the workshop.
